SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol) is a protocol used to provide Internet access over serial communication lines, such as telephone lines using a modem. It encapsulates IP packets for transmission over serial links. Although SLIP was widely used in the early days of the Internet, it has now been largely replaced by PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol), which offers better security, authentication, and error detection.
SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol) एक प्रोटोकॉल है, जिसका उपयोग सीरियल संचार लाइन (Serial Communication Line), जैसे टेलीफोन लाइन और मॉडेम के माध्यम से इंटरनेट तक पहुँचने के लिए किया जाता था। यह IP पैकेटों को सीरियल लिंक के माध्यम से भेजने का कार्य करता है। वर्तमान समय में SLIP का स्थान अधिकांशतः PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) ने ले लिया है, क्योंकि PPP अधिक सुरक्षित, विश्वसनीय तथा प्रमाणीकरण (Authentication) जैसी सुविधाएँ प्रदान करता है।
